Assignment 7: Interventionist Design
This is a creative re-design (with new content of a political or satirical nature) to an existing commercial web page. Our objective was to create a work that serves as a visual, cultural critique through the appropriation and re-purposing of the design of an existing web page.
Today's target: McDonald's. :)
To the right you will see the original design. You'll notice certain marketing themes, including positive messaging to both adults and kids. You'll also see references to health and the Olympics, which McDonald's loves to reference in their TV commercials. It's pretty shameless.
The Interventionist Design takes this a step further and is meant to provide a bit more of a... real world... representation of what McD's should be advertising. What would happen if they used actual (non-doctored) photos of their hamburgers and salads? Should fast food restaurants be forced to put Surgeon General's Warnings on their website to warn those that might be unaware of the health dangers associated with this type of food intake? These are all very pressing questions this piece is designed to explore.
